The air, water, and soil within Low Emissions Zones (LEZs) are monitored for emissions that exceed the limits. In certain cases, emissions can be seen as particulate matter, which is a result of airborne emissions. The quality of the particulate matter the excessive amount could pose a risk to the life of plants, or aquatic life when it is sucked into lakes, rivers, and oceans. The accumulation of excessive quantities of particulate matter within LEZ zones could result in fines that are stiffly issued by authorities like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
